Transform Mining Towards a Zero Waste Industry

Convene Projects

CMIC provides a valuable function to convene senior levels of mining companies to discuss common challenges, areas for collaboration, share insights and discuss common technology projects.

Below are three main projects where CMIC provided this convening function.

Project Title Summary
Battery Electric Vehicle Guidelines In 2016 CMIC, at the request of the mining industry, conducted a workshop with mining companies and suppliers to share where the industry was headed with battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology and dive down in to the common issues the industry was facing.  At the end of the workshop the participants all agreed that guidelines for BEV’s were essential.

Since that time, the Global Mining Standards Group (GMG) and CMIC  partnered to create these guidelines.

Short Interval Control Guidelines CMIC worked with the mining industry and invited suppliers to hold multiple workshops on short interval control (SIC) and as with the BEV workshop a need for guidelines was identified.

Since that time, the Global Mining Standards Group (GMG) and CMIC partnered to create these guidelines.

Ore Sorting Technology Consortium Ore sorting as a key focus area for collaboration was identified by CMIC through its process of creating an underground roadmap for the future of mining from 2014-2015.  In the fall of 2016, CMIC hosted a workshop with mining industry executives and select suppliers that included a half day dedicated to ore sorting.  At that workshop, there was not enough interest in creating a technology consortium in ore sorting among CMIC members.  At a CMIC Board meeting in 2018, ore sorting as an area for mining company collaboration was discussed and the idea of a consortium of mining companies to share technology implementation in ore sorting was kicked off.

This is a consortium being managed by a select group of mining companies and there is no public information available.
