Working Group Update – Sept 2013

Welcome to the working group updates, which will be a regular feature of the new CMIC website. Here you will be able to find the most up-to-date information on the progress of our technical work groups.

Exploration: Over the summer the group formulated a proposal for real time analysis to reduce variability in deep mining, generated an initiative to produce a Canada-made mineral exploration simulator, and determined challenges and goals to better customize the CMIC Exploration role.

Energy: Flyn McCarthy (Goldcorp) has become the leader of the Energy group. The group is finalizing an analysis of gaps, priorities, and a roadmap for moving forward.

Environmental Stewardship:  The group has released a scoping report that led to the creation of three sub-groups in Water, Tailings and Closure, and is currently conducting a survey which will help finalize the consolidated plans of the sub-groups.

Highly Qualified People: Engin Ozberk (IMII) and Karen Booth (MITACS) have become co-chairs of this group and are working to identify how to move forward on the group’s areas of focus.

Mining: The Mining group has been reviewing the work performed since May 2012 to assess the next steps, and will be working on developing a technology roadmap as of September.

Processing: The group will be looking to meet in the fall and receive an update on two potential proposals in the area of Comminution and Regrind that had previously been put forward to the group.
